Adam George Gazek

January 15, 1919 — January 26, 2013

Adam George Gazek, 94, formerly of Polk, died on January 26, 2013, at The Caring Place in Franklin.



Born January 15, 1919 in Collier, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Mary and Adam Gazek.



After graduating from high school, he served in World War II with the Army Air Corps as a radio operator and gunner on a B17 bomber in Europe. His plane was shot down over Germany and he was captured and held as a POW for 20 months.



After his discharge from the service, he attended Pennsylvania State College and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1949.



He relocated to the Franklin area and became employed at Polk Center as the Maintenance Engineer and Supervisor where he retired in June of 1980 after 32 years.



He was married to the former Alberta Paskie on October 20, 1951 and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2001.



Mr. Gazek was a long time member of St. Patrick Church and the Knights of Columbus. His passion in life was sports, especially golf, and his second home, during much of his life, was the Wanango Country Club in Reno. After retirement, he and his wife, Alberta, spent the winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where they enjoyed golfing with their friends and family.



Surviving are two sisters, Marie Byrnes of Levittown, Pennsylvania and Margaret Iacomini of Lady Lake, Florida; seventeen nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.



In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Gazek, and a sister, Anne Biggs.



Family & friends welcome from 9:30 ? 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin.



Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty St. Franklin, PA with Monsignor John J. Herbein, officiating.



Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.



The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty Street, Franklin, Pennsylvania 16323, or to The Caring Place Nursing Home, 103 North 13th Street, Franklin, PA 16323.
