Alice J. Persing, 82, of 103 N. 13th Street died at 2:00 a.m. Sunday June 27, 2010 at The Caring Place.
A daughter of Norris and Margaret Thorngate Carter she was born in Dempseytown on October 29, 1927.
She was in the last class to complete their studies at the Dempseytown School and was the salutatorian of the Oil City High School graduating class of 1944.
Mrs. Persing was employed as a physical therapy aide at Polk Center, retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Persing was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed spoiling her dog, Mickey and attending yard sales.
On January 19, 1947 she married Carl J. Huff who died June 28, 1973. The Huff family made their home in the Dempseytown area. She married Donald E. Persing on July 6, 1977 and he preceded her in death on October 25, 2009. They made their home in Rocky Grove assnowbirds� to Florida for several years. They then moved to Florida for a time before returning to Rocky Grove.
Surviving are five children Robert A. Huff and his wife Mary Lou of Oil City, William L. Huff and his wife Joyce of Decatur, AL, Susan D. Reed and her husband Daniel of Dempseytown, Carol Jean Vath and her husband Rick of Polk and Kathy L. Larsen and her husband Larry of Franklin; two step-sons FrankJeff� Persing and his wife Terri of Corinth, TX and Steve Persing and his wife Heidi of Oil City; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers NorrisDick� Carter and his wife Mary Ann and Robert Carter and his wife Ann both of Dempseytown, Russ Carter and his wife Ginny of Cooperstown and Glenn Carter and his wife Ann of Oswego, NY; two sisters Twila Weingard and her husband Enos of Indiana and Joyce Wetjen and her husband Brad of Franklin; a sister-in-law June Carter of Rocky Grove and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Sandra Huff on September 27, 1952 and two brothers Edmund and Frederick Carter.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 9 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Richard Roberts, pastor of the Sharon First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be made in the Lamey Cemetery.
The family has suggested memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 10 West Front Street, Oil City PA 16301.
