Barbara G. Kirtland

Barbara G. Kirtland, 71 of Franklin passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday July 26, 2017 after a long valiant struggle with cancer.

Born in Lower Marion, PA on March 14, 1946 she was the daughter of the late David Gilmore and Millicent Abbott Grubb.

Barbara graduated from Conestoga High School, attended Juanita College, and then graduated from Cornell University School of Nursing with her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

For over 20 years, Barbara was a proud small business owner in downtown Franklin. She owned and operated the eVerything Antique Shop that sold antiques and gifts.

Barbara was instrumental in the formation of the Kirtland Cancer Foundation and worked hard to ensure the foundation's mission to give back to the community by helping people and families affected by cancer.

A true animal lover, Barbara cherished her dogs, especially Murphy, Sam and Daisy. She enjoyed searching for hidden treasures attending auctions and visiting antique shops. It could be said that Barbara was an original "Picker."

Barbara was a very down to earth person who could connect with anyone. She was engaging and sincerely interested in learning about the person she was talking with.

She enjoyed spending time at her cottage on the river and with her children and grandchildren. Barbara was extremely proud of her boys and all their accomplishments, but she was most proud that they are so close.

On August 2, 1969 she married Dr. Howard H. Kirtland III, the love of her life and rock, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 2017.

Surviving are her four children; Howard H. Kirtland IV, CPA and his wife Robin of LaGrange, KY and their daughter Sophia Kirtland; Dr. Rand Kirtland and his wife Jillian of Marietta, OH and their children, Samantha, Claire and Henry Rand Kirtland; Dr. Robert Kradel and his wife Denise of Youngsville, NC; and Magisterial District Judge, Matthew T. Kirtland of Franklin.

Barbara was a dedicated wife, a loving mother, a wonderful friend, and will forever be missed.

Family and friends welcome Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Huff Funeral Home Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. in St. John Episcopal Church, 1145 Buffalo St. Franklin with Rev. Richard Rowe, officiating. Everyone attending the service please meet at the church.

Private interment will be at Graham Cemetery.
