Betty Jane Sampsell Moffett, 86, formerly of 226 Pone Lane, Franklin died Sunday September 6, 2009 at The Presbyterian Home, Oil City.
A daughter of Orie E. and Helen Washlon Sampsell she was born in Oil City on April 26, 1923. She was a 1941 graduate of Oil City High School.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin where she was employed as the church secretary and treasurer for many years. She enjoyed bowling and bowled in the Tuesday night Tenpinners League.
On February 23, 1945 she married Harry E. Moffett who died May 6, 2008.
Surviving are a daughter Sandy Perry and her husband Wayne of Tippery, a son Edward H. Moffett and his wife Jean Ann of Oil City, four grandchildren Mark Perry and his wife Marcy of Oil City, Jeffrey Moffett and his wife Heather of Cranberry Twp., Steven Moffett and his wife Darla of Erie and Lynn Sharp of Oil City, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are a brother Jack Sampsell and his wife Betty of Edina, MN and a special niece Linda Sampsell of Greensburg and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Al Sampsell and sister-in-law Betty Sampsell.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St. from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 11 a.m. Wednesday in Christ United Methodist Church, 1135 Buffalo Street. Funeral services will be held in the church at 11 a.m. Wed. with Rev. David Janz, pastor officiating.
Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City.
