Charles Lyman Hitchcock

June 17, 1927 — December 2, 2010

Charles Lyman Hitchcock, 83 loving father, grand father and great grand father of 169 Greenway Ave. Seneca died at 9:00 P.M. Thursday December 2, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Oil City after suffering a massive stroke on December 1st 2010.
Born in Franklin on June 17, 1927 he was a son of the late James P. and Amy Manson Hitchcock.
A 1945 graduate of Cranberry High School, Mr. Hitchcock worked at Joy Manufacturing Company for 38 years retiring as a warehouse traffic supervisor in 1987.
Charles was an active member of the Seneca United Methodist Church where he participated in the Builder Class. He also assisted with the Oil City Meals on Wheels Program.
He proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Navy.
He was an avid golfer and played frequently with friends on the Saturday Tour and also the Senior?s League. Charles was also very active at the Franklin YMCA.
He was a member of the Petrolia Lodge No. 363 F.&A.M. in Oil City and also the Valley of Oil City Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge.
Charles enjoyed his Thanksgiving on vacation in Florida with family and especially the great-grand children. He was known for the yummy brownies he made for family and friends. Papa will be sadly missed, but will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He married Shirley Fox on July 1, 1950 and she preceded him in death on August 18, 1982.
Surviving is a daughter Rebecca Lynn Hitchcock Stafford and her husband William of Edinboro; four grandchildren Charles W. Stafford and his wife Kelly of Charlotte, NC; Kristen L. Stafford and her boyfriend Jorge Arevalo of Fort Pierce, FL; Timothy J. Stafford and his girlfriend Ashlea Ours of Greensboro, NC; and Andrew J. Stafford and his fianc�� Ashley Benhke of Bridgeville, PA; three great grandchildren Emilyn Janae Stafford, Charles Hudson Stafford and Elliott Paige Stafford. Also surviving is a sister Joan Funk of Franklin; a brother Rolland C. Hitchcock and his wife Lois Ballard Hitchcock of Fresno, CA; and two nephews Gary M. Funk of Franklin and Douglas C. Hitchcock of Sacramento, CA.
Charles is also survived by Joyce McFadden, a wonderful and caring friend of 27 years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Norma Jean Hitchcock and a brother in law Fred V. Funk.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Huff Chapel Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the Seneca United Methodist Church 196 East State Rd., Seneca PA 16346 with the Rev. Rob Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow at Rockland Cemetery.

Members of Petrolia Valley Lodge No. 363 F.&A.M. will hold a service at 6:45 P.M. on Tuesday at Huff Chapel Inc.
