Clement E. Gallagher

Clement Edward Gallagher, 88, of Cooperstown passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home.



A son of Edward Lane and Minnie Blanche Latchaw Gallagher he was born in Rockland Twp., on August 16, 1924.



He was a 1942 graduate of Rockland High School. Following his graduation he worked for the railroad and Struthers Wells in Titusville before entering the service.



A veteran of World War II he served in the Army Air Corps. He did his basic training at Shepherd Field, Texas; he then furthered his training as an airplane mechanic and specialist training at Chanute, IN. Attaining the rank of corporal he served in Africa, Italy, China, Burma and India.



After his discharge he went with his brother Boyd to Alaska where he worked salmon fishing for a cannery. He then began working as a union structural iron worker building towers, radar installations and army barracks. After returning to the mainland he worked from Seattle to Baltimore and many points in between for 42 years. He retired in 1990.



Mr. Gallagher was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Myrtle Lodge #316 F&AM and the New Castle Consistory. He was an avid hunter and particularly enjoyed hunting with his family.



On April 4, 1950 he married the former Sarah Fike who survives along with 6 children who were all raised in Cooperstown; Danny lee Gallagher of Franklin, Deborah Eakin and her husband Dick of Utica, Cindy Schreck and her husband Larry of MO, Timothy Gallagher and his wife Lili of OK, Michael Gallagher and his wife Shannon of Franklin and Bryan Gallagher of Cooperstown. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 siblings Edith Shear, Sydney Allen Gallagher, Robert Arnold ?Bill? Gallagher, Byran Francis ?Fritz? Gallagher, Eleanor Elaine Hilliard, Evan Boyd Gallagher, Clarice June Hatch, and Loma Cecilia Gilliland, a grandson Danny Lee Gallagher II and his best friend Jack Mahle.



Friends will be received in the Oakland United Methodist Church, 1431 State Route 428, Oil City from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Edward P. Saxman, pastor officiating.



Military honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.

Interment will be made in the Melat Cemetery, Rockland at the familiy?s convenience.
