Donald H. Palmer

Donald H. Palmer, 85 of Franklin, passed away Thursday morning, September 1, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 28, 1931 in Butler, PA, he was the son of the late Richard G. Palmer and Doris Meddiker Palmer.

He attended Butler Area Schools and enlisted in the Navy when he was 17. He served his country for four years, and was honorably discharged.

Donald first worked at Armco Steel Co. in Butler, then went into business with George Kerr, Inc. He later bought the business in Franklin from Mr. Kerr and owned Palmer T.V. and Appliances on Liberty Street for over twenty years. When ill health forced him to close the business, he obtained his real estate brokers license and worked for many years at Dale Wilson's office. Don was a people person and enjoyed working there very much. Don also enjoyed wheeling and dealing at yard sales and car shows.

He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Butler, New Castle Consistory and Zem Zem Temple of Shriners in Erie for over 50 Years. Don was a wonderful, caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother, he will be dearly missed.

Don is survived by his wife Aileen of almost 65 years, and four children Bruce Palmer and His wife Connie Jo, Carol Santoyo and her husband Stan, Deborah Law and her husband Tim, all of Franklin and Leanne Darling and her husband Scott of Newburgh, IN, and a brother Richard J. Palmer. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren Nathan and Korey Dunlap, Richard Palmer, Julie Fowler and her husband Nate, Sarah Palmer and Nick and Jared Darling. His special little ray of sunshine, his great-granddaughter, Bethany Dunlap also survives.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Darling, Jr. and a brother Dale E. Palmer.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services 312 W. Park St., Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Roy Gearhart, pastor of Galloway United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery where Military Honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.

There will be no visitation on Monday.

Memorials may be made in Don's name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105, or Galloway United Methodist church, 196 Seysler Rd, Franklin, PA 16323.
