Donald K. Smith, 83, of East Mercer Street, Harrisville, since 1954, died at 4:11 p.m. Saturday at the Grove City Medical Center. Born in Milledgeville, Mercer County, Dec. 30, 1927, he was the son of Kerr C. and Mabel (Voories) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of Cochranton High School. He retired from Cooper Energy of Grove City in 1990 with 33 years as a lathe operator. Before retirement, he went into the office as a computer programmer. He also was a self-employed appliance repairman, Mr. Smith attended the Harmony Presbyterian Church of Harrisville. He was past president of the Harrisville Deer Hunter Association, a former Harrisville Borough Council member, a member of the Harrisville American Legion Post 852, one of the founders and a past president of the Courtside Club of Slippery Rock High basketball, a former golfer, bowler, hunter, avid gardener and camper. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events. He was a World War II Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Helen L. (Rembold) Smith, whom he married Nov. 12, 1948; daughters, Carolyn E. (Richard D.) Palmer of Grove City, Darlene K. DeLong of Forestville and Janice L. (Mark C.) Brinker of Grove City; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. SMITH - Services for Donald K. Smith, who died Saturday, March 5, 2011, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville, with Pastor Pat L. Confer of the Alliance Church of Sandy Lake officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
