George Acheson "Ach" Black Jr.

Mr. George Acheson "Ach" Black, Jr. died at 12:50 P.M. Thursday December 31, 2015 at Sugar Creek Station in Franklin.

Mr. Black was born at Bradford Woods PA on February 2, 1924. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1941and then served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer aboard a B-25 Mitchell, flying 47missions in the South Pacific Theater. Returning to Franklin, he married Patricia Ann Black, January 18, 1947.

During his career he worked at Joy Manufacturing Company. After moving to Corry PA, Mr. Black was the factory manager for Rogers Structural Steel Company. He also served as a consultant for Strayer Steel, Erie. During his retirement, he taught welding at Venango Technology Center, Webco Industries, and Franklin Industries.

During his lifetime Mr. Black served as troop leader for Boy Scout Troop #33 at First Presbyterian Church, Franklin; an elder in the Presbyterian Church; a member of Rotary International and president of the Corry Rotary; president of The American Welding Society; a member of Franklin Toymakers; member of the Elks Club and the VFW of Franklin; committee member for Wings Over Venango.

Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents, George Acheson and Constance Hunter Black, and a sister, Constance Kapp.

He is survived by his wife Patricia of Grant Street, Franklin; three sons -Jon Acheson and his wife Jane of Carlisle PA; Steven Lee of Troy Michigan; and James Randall and his wife Leith of Niceville Florida; grandchildren - Alixandra Black of Sanford, Florida; Dr. Bryan Black and wife Genoa and great-grandson Henry Acheson of Port Aransas Texas; Amy Meadows and husband Tony and great-grandson Landry of Mechanicsburg PA.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 W. Park St. Franklin.

Private graveside services will be held at Franklin Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Franklin Library Foundation 421 12th St. Franklin, PA 16323 or a charity of one's choice.
