Harry E. Richards

Harry E. Richards Jr., 91, of Grove City, Butler County, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday September 2, 2015 at Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville.

A son of Harry E. and Elizabeth Depp Richards Sr., he was born in Butler on November 30, 1923. Harry was a 1941 graduate of Harrisville High School.

A veteran of World War II, "Ed" was a Pioneer Platoon Soldier 89th Div. (Rolling W) attached to the 3rd Army under the command of General Patton. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars, and the Croix de Guerre, the French Cross of Valor. Proud of his service he was a charter member of Harrisville Post 852 of the American Legion and was a life member of the Hickory VFW.

He had over 44 years of service with Cooper Bessemer. At the time of his retirement he was a storeroom clerk.

As a member of the Loyal Order of Moose he enjoyed participating in outdoor activities and sports. He later enjoyed watching them on TV with Lucky and Sinbad, his cats.

On June 21, 1961 he married the former Lucretia "Lee" Smoker; she survives along with a daughter Tina L. Richards Myers and a son Harry E. Richards III both of Grove City, and a granddaughter Erika L. Myers. Also surviving is a half-sister Nancy Deloe, of McKean

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Mary Olive Richards, 2 brothers Harold Dale and David Lee Richards and 2 sisters Martha Jean Williams and infant Vivian Ruth.

Friends will be received in the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony Church, Forestville at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Kevin G. Poecking, pastor, presiding.

Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
