Helen L. Snyder

Helen L. Snyder, 91, former Franklin resident, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday October 19, 2010 at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge in Erie.
A daughter of Faber Roy and Barbara Tate Orwick she was born in Bergholtz, Ohio on April 4, 1919. She was a graduate of Franklin High School.
Mrs. Snyder was employed at Polk Center for 35 years. She taught home economics at the time of her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she led a ladies circle and was a member of the Christ Ambassador Sunday School Class. She was a member of Civic League, Belles Lettres Club and served on the executive committee of the Christian Women?s Club. Mrs. Snyder was Past Noble Grand of Minnie Rebekah Lodge #144. She was a volunteer at the Literacy Council, YWCA and Venango Manor (now Sugar Creek Station). She also tutored at Central Elementary School and the Franklin Middle School. She enjoyed planning and preparing wonderful meals for family and friends.
In 2004 she moved to The Villages in Florida and lived there until January 2010 when she moved to Erie to be with her son. While in Erie she was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
On January 12, 1937 she married William D. Snyder who died November 28, 1991.
Surviving are two sons Thomas W. Snyder and his wife Patty of Fairview and Terrance W. Snyder and his wife Christine of Fruitland Park, FL, 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Finetta Finley of Erie, a half-brother Harry T. Daye of Polk, a half-sister Barbara Ann Clifford of Macungie, PA and several nieces and nephews including Tammy Klescz of Oil City who considered Helen as a mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Larry Snyder, 2 step-brothers and 2 step-sisters.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Dr. David Holste, retired United Methodist minister officiating.
Interment will be made in Old Sandy Cemetery.
