Joan B. Davis

Joan B. Davis, 90, a lifelong Franklin resident died at Savannah Cottage of Chatham in Savannah, GA on Friday afternoon, September 26, 2014.

She was born on February 22, 1924, in Franklin to the late Henry H. and Neva Ferringer Bell.

Joan was a 1941 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1945 graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her RN certification. She worked at the former Franklin Hospital as a private duty nurse and was also an operating room nurse at the Eye and Ear Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She married Raymond E. "Corby" Davis on December 27, 1945, at the St. John Episcopal Church and he predeceased her on March 6, 1989.

She lived her entire life in Franklin, except when her husband was in the Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY and Albuquerque, NM for a short time. In September 2013 she moved to Rincon, GA to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, PA and a lifetime member of the Presbyterian-University Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association.. She was active in the Franklin Hospital Auxiliary and made calls for Life-Line for many years. She served on many blood drives for the Franklin Red Cross. She volunteered for the Chamber of Commerce during Apple Fest; assisted with the delivery of Meals-on-Wheels; was a Girl Scout leader; and volunteered in the Kiwanis Mentor Program in the Franklin Area School District.

She enjoyed sewing, reading and traveling. From 1991-2000 she traveled and attended 14 Elderhostel's. She visited California, Louisiana, Texas, Montana, Maryland, Washington, Vancouver, New England and Alaska. It was in Alaska that she was awarded a certificate for "walking across the Arctic Circle."

Surviving is a daughter, Linda Slater, and her husband Richard of Rincon, GA; a grandson, Michael Slater of Atlanta, GA; a cousin Gwen F. Kossman of Red Lion, PA; a very special friend, Kathy Smith of Franklin, PA and a niece and several nephews.

Family and friends are welcome Tuesday from 1:00-3:00PM at Huff Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. at 312 W. Part St. Franklin.

Funeral service will be held at 3:30PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Barry Jenkins of The First Presbyterian Church in Franklin officiating.

Interment will be private at the Franklin Cemetery following the service.
