John B. Heckathorne

April 17, 1953 — August 20, 2016

John B. Heckathorne Jr. 63 of Franklin passed away unexpectedly on Saturday August 20, 2016 at his residence.

Born April 17, 1953 in Oil City, he was a son of the late John B. & Emma Beatrice Downing Heckathorne.

John was a 1972 graduate of Oil City High School.

He worked for over 42 years at Electralloy in Oil City retiring in October of 2015.

John enjoyed anything outdoors, especially hunting, salmon fishing and mowing his yard. He was a standout athlete at Oil City High School earning letters in football, wrestling and baseball. Family was everything to John and he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren, attending all of their events over the years.

John's life was his beloved wife Barb. They have been together since their early teenage years and were married on January 6, 1973. Over their 43 years of marriage, they have traveled extensively to the beach with their family, Gettysburg, the west coast and they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a trip to Alaska in 2003.

Surviving are two children; John P. Heckathorne and his wife Ellisa of Franklin, Cory Heckathorne and his wife Christine of Franklin; five grandchildren, Megan, Jonah, Katelyn, Karis, and Erin Heckathorne all of Franklin; six brothers and sisters, Carol McIntyre, Linda Wangelin and her husband Jim, Dottie Allen and her husband Gra, Russell Heckathorne, David Heckathorne and his wife kathie and Jacqueline Beach Elfer and her husband Don.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as a nephew, Scott Greene.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Atkinson, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be made at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holden Beach Turtle Watch Program, Turtle Patrol, P.O. Box 487 Supply, NC 28462.
