John Henry Hook

September 13, 1923 — April 12, 2012

John Henry Hook, 88 formerly of Franklin died on April 12, 2012 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, Ohio.



Born in Beaver Twp. Clarion County on September 13, 1923 he was a son of the late Henry and Edna Amsler Hook.



John was a 1941 graduate of White Memorial High School near Knox. Upon graduation from high school, he was offered a Minor League Baseball contract as a pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He declined the contract offer and went to the University of Pittsburgh on a Baseball and Basketball scholarship.



Mr. Hook proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII, serving 3 � years on the USS Hornet in the South Pacific.



He was a sports enthusiast, and played in the Sleepy Hollow Sr. Citizen Golf League. He was also an avid traveler and enjoyed traveling throughout his retirement. He was a Mason and 50 year member of the Myrtle Lodge in Franklin.



Mr. Hook was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin for 55 years where he participated in the church choir. He also served as Financial Secretary, a member of the Board of Trustees and various other committees.



He worked as a Systems Analyst for 30 years at Joy retiring in March of 1983.

John has resided the last two years in Elyria Ohio.



On July 2, 1949, he married the former Vivian Maxwell and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters; Barbara Schneider and her husband Bruce of Elyria, OH and Cheryl Adams and her husband Randy of Oil City; four grandchildren; Amy Hunger and her husband Mark of Cleveland, OH, Leigh McDermott and her husband Patrick of Strongsville, OH, Nicholas Adams of Charleston S.C., and Erica Adams of Oil City; one brother Ronald Hook and his wife Virginia of Knox, and one sister in law Bernice Hook of Butler and a number of nieces and nephews.



In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one Brother, Allen LaMont Hook and one sister, Sara Louise Dittman.



Family and friends welcome Friday from 2:00 ? 4:00 & 7:00 ? 9:00 P.M. at Huff Chapel Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Little, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin, officiating.



Entombment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
