Kathryn K. Longenecker

April 30, 1945 — December 21, 2018

Kathryn Kunkel Longenecker of Franklin was cremated upon her death, this 21st day of December, 2018.

She was born in Long Beach, CA and was dubbed the "Baby with the million dollar smile." From 2 - 22 years of age, she lived in Franklin, PA - graduating from Rocky Grove High School in 1963, receiving her BA from Edinboro State College (now University) in 1967 and continued on for a ME degree. For 30 years she taught students math in their junior and senior high schools of the West Chester School District. During that time she married Rev. Walter Longenecker in March of 1974. Though she never had children of her own, her prayers were answered when she had the opportunity to care for and eventually raise her grandson, David Furlong.

She is predeceased by her husband, Walter Longenecker, her parents Earl and Phoebe (Huff) Kunkel and a 10 day old baby brother, James Earl. Surviving siblings are Nancy (LeRoy) Prichard of Charlotte, NC, Leroy "Butch" (Peg) Kunkel in Tacoma WA and Deborah (Bob) Resinger of Franklin, PA. , three step sons Tim, John and Mark Longenecker, 3 grandchildren David, John and Kaitlin, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her life was wound around people, church and music. Although she loved children, her ministry was with the elderly, loving and encouraging them. Beyond her church service (choir, piano playing, Bible School teaching) she enjoyed craft hobbies like card stamping and flower gardening. It was always a standing joke about her cooking: "Dinner will be served at the sound of the smoke alarm", or "Some people have eaten in this kitchen and still lived to tell about it", or "bring ice to the party so you won't burn it" Regardless of her cooking prowess, she enjoyed family, friends, working at Mac's Snax, wiener roast and gatherings. Being part of her earthly family and the family of God was just about as perfect as life could be for her!

Memorial services will be held in April for friends and family to celebrate the life of Kay, your friend and ours. More information of the celebration will be in the paper two weeks prior.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St., Franklin.
