Laverne C. Laing

Laverne C. Laing, 91, of Franklin passed away at 4:15 P.M. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Born on February 3, 1927 in Cooperstown, PA, Laverne was the daughter of Alton and Hazel Bean Irwin.

Laverne had a very strong work ethic. She owned and operated a dog grooming business, Laing's Dog Grooming, for over thirty years and owned rental properties. She also helped her husband with his businesses which included the former Blue Knight, Franklin Gravel and Laing's Trucking.

Laverne was a collector of many things including Hummel figurines, plates, etc., and she also loved her jewelry, and had quite the collection.

Laverne loved dogs, especially Dobermans, she treated them like her children. She greatly missed her beloved dog, Molly.

She married Robert William Laing, Sr. in 1946, and he preceded her in death in 2004.

Laverne will be greatly missed by her son, Robert W. Laing, Jr.; her grandchildren: Marcus P. Laing, and his fiancé, Judy Woodworth, Robert W. Laing, III, Kelly M. (Richard) Roberts, Gretchen Laing (Timothy) Artz; her great-grandchild: Brittany Laing, Brandon Laing, Robert W. Laing, IV, Ashley Laing, Gage Alton Roberts and Owen Foster Roberts; and she was also survived by her sister, Geraldine Shreckengost.

In addition to her parents and husband, Laverne was preceded in death by her son, Alton E. Laing; her brothers, Kenneth E. Irwin, Louis A. Irwin, and Alvin E. Irwin; and her sisters, Mabel Daniels and Josephine Boughner.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 312 W. Park Street, Franklin where family and friends are welcome from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, and 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Thursday

A funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Justin Spurgin of Messiah Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will take place at Lupher Chapel Cemetery.
