Marilyn Joanne Brannon

April 11, 1931 — December 31, 2015

Marilyn Joanne Brannon, 84 of Franklin died peacefully Thursday afternoon, December 31, 2015 at The Caring Place in Franklin.

Born April 11, 1931 in Franklin she was a daughter of the late John and Hester Williams Mackell.
She was a 1949 graduate of Sugarcreek High School (now Rocky Grove High School).

Over the years, Joanne was an active and faithful member of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church where she previously served as a Deacon and Good Shepard.

She also was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer at the former Franklin Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital in IL, and the Presbyterian Home in Oil City. Additionally she was involved with the girl and boy scouts, PTA, Venango County Election Board and she ran the Franklin Little League Concession Stand.

Joanne enjoyed tole painting, playing cards, bowling and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan throughout her entire life.

She loved to travel and spend time in Canada and resided in Australia for a number of years. Closer to home she enjoyed reminiscing about many past exploits with her very special friend, Mabel Mong. She was very proud of the fact and liked to tell those who visited her home that her late husband designed and built it himself.

Beginning with her children, Joanne rarely missed any athletic event they were participating in. This continued with her grandchildren, as long as her health permitted.

On April 21, 1951 she married James M. Brannon and he preceded her in death on January 5, 2003.

Surviving are four children; Catherine Sue Hustedde of Franklin, Barbara Ann Oakes and her husband Gary Sr. of Franklin, J. Edwin Brannon and his wife Lisa of Franklin and Kenneth Wayne Brannon and his wife Erin of Oil City; five grandchildren; Ryan J. Oakes and his wife Meghan, Gary R. Oakes Jr., Brooke R. Brannon, Mallory E. Brannon, and Nolan J. Brannon; two great-grandchildren, Preston J. Oakes and Connor A. Oakes; and a sister Wanda Mackell Shuffstall.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Mackell Spangler, a son -in-law, Ron Hustedde; and two brothers-in-law Boyd Spangler and Harry Shuffstall Sr.
