Mildred J. Sass

Mildred Jenette Sass, 88, of Franklin, died peacefully, surrounded by her family members at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at home.

A daughter of Calvin and Ada Petenbrink Bittner, she was born in Larimer Twp., Somerset County on August 9, 1927. She was a graduate of Meyersdale High School.

Mildred had been employed by Citizen's national Bank in Meyersdale, Shaver & Heckman, attorneys at law in Somerset, Baumgardner Gas & Oil CO. in Johnstown. While in Franklin she had worked at Dale, Woodard, Montgomery & White, Attorneys at law and Community Ambulance Service.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was a vital member of the card ministry, keeping in touch with the members. Lately she had been keeping in touch with e-mails.
Mildred was a loving mother and grandmother, who worked side by side with her husband during his 64 years in the ministry. She enjoyed the time spent with her family, traveling with her husband and gardening.

On August 8, 1947 she married Rev. John Sass Jr., He survives along with 4 children Rev. Darlene (Rev. Jerry) Williams, Darlagene (Jeff) Hawke, Dr. Kimberlee John (Kathy) Sass, and Kraig D. (Diane) Sass; 6 grandchildren Amy (Daniel) McLaughlin, John (Taylor) Williams, Heather Hawke-Ditzenberger, Danielle Hawke, Jeffrey Hunter Hawke, and Alexander Sass; and 6 great-grandchildren Riley, Bailey, Bryce, Macie McLaughlin, Emma and Brody Ditzenberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters Gladys Korns and Ina Hittie, and 3 brothers S. Wilbert Bittner, Calvin Bittner Jr. and R. Clinton Bittner.

Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin have been entrusted with her funeral arrangements.

Friends will be received in the Christ United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. Friday until 11 am when funeral services will be held with the Rev. David Janz, pastor of Christ Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery.
