Patricia J. Carrara, 66 of 114 Aspen Drive, Franklin died Tuesday afternoon, December 22, 2009 at UPMC Northwest, Seneca.
She was born in Franklin on March 20, 1943 a daughter of Patsy J. and Josephine P. Scapaticci Carrara.
She graduated from Franklin High School in 1961 and then attended Clarion Campus in Oil City.
Miss Carrara was well known as a clerical supervisor and chief clerk at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Franklin, where she worked for 47 years. During her employment she was one of 18 department employees in the state to receive the Star of Excellence which she was awarded twice.
She was an active life long member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin where she served as Religious Educations Coordinator for 22 years, served as Eucharistic Minister, worked in the food pantry and for church dinners and was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 46 years and held many offices with the organization.
She also stayed in close contact with her high school class mates and helped to coordinate all of the class reunions.
She enjoyed playing cards and was very active in several card clubs.
Surviving is her sister Phyllis Umstead and her husband Al, Grove City; two nieces Julie A. Umstead, Franklin; Lisa Umbenhaur and her husband Ryan, Jonestown, PA; a nephew Brian Umstead and his wife Paige, Cincinnati, Ohio, 3 great-nieces and 3 great nephews and several close cousins in the area.
Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin, on Sunday from 1-4 and 7-9.
A vigil service will be conducted in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Monsignor John J. Herbein pastor of St. Patrick as the celebrant.
Interment will be made in St. Patrick Cemetery.
The family suggests that donations be made to the Kirtland Foundation, PO Box 109, Franklin, PA; St. Patrick?s Building Fund, 949 Liberty St., Franklin, PA or a charity of ones choice.
