Robert E. Harley

Robert E. Harley, 85 of Kennerdell died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 in UPMC Northwest in Seneca. He was born in Apollo Pennsylvania on September 10, 1923 a son of John H. and Mary Ellen Boyd Harley. He spent his early life in West Monterry and graduated from Rockland High in 1942. Mr. Harley was employed for over 30 years at the J&L Steel Works in Oil City later Van Huffel Tube retiring from there in 1985. He was a member of the Franklin VFW and the Rockland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. He was of the protestant faith. He married Betty Jane Barr on February 20, 1946; they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this month. She survives along with a daughter Linda Fox and her husband Richard, Kennerdell; two sons John Harley and his wife Marie, Ashtabula, OH; Robert B. Harley, Kennerdell; a step-son Gary L. Harley and his wife Karla, Jekyll Island, GA; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Betty Jane Olsen; two brothers James H. Harley and Howard B. Harley; three sisters Irene Kepple, Laura Feltenberger and Florence Hogan Barger. Friends will be received in the Huff Chapel 312 W. Park St., Franklin, today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Shawn Goodwin pastor of the Rockland United Methodist church officiating. Interment will be made in the Rockland Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.huffchapel.com.
