Robert L. McDaniel, 86, of Franklin, died at 10:35 a.m. Monday November 16, 2015 at Sugar Creek Station.

A son of Dale R. and Matilda Gibbons McDaniel Sr., he was born on Bully Hill on December 2, 1928. He was a 1945 graduate of Rocky Grove High School.

He entered the U.S. Navy at Willow Grove and was stationed at Camp Perry before serving on the USS Valley Forge, an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Bob was proud of his service during the war and was delighted to receive a letter of thanks from President Harry S. Truman for his service.

He began his career as a service man at C.P.T. and for 22 years he traveled all over the United States servicing equipment. He retired after a 48 year career with C.P.T at the time of his retirement he was a foreman.

Bob was a 50 years member of the Franklin Eagles, a member of the C.P.T. Quarter Century Club, he had been a member of the Rainbow Archery Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On December 31, 1948 he married the love of his life the former Delores V. Heffner. They were devoted to each other for over 50 years, enjoying many wonderful trips. They visited Germany, England and all 48 of the continental United States. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2000.

Surviving are two special nieces who cared for him, Carol Haylett and her husband Robert and Joanne Foster and her husband Ralph Foster II all of Cochranton, 2 great-nieces Kathy Rhoades and Patty Lynn Brooks, 6 great-nephews Robert C. Haylett, David Haylett, Richard Foster, Ralph Foster III, Jeffrey Foster and Frank McDaniel, and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law Dale R. and Joan McDaniel Jr. and a nephew Dale R. McDaniel III.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 W.Park St. from 1-4:45 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at the funeral home at 5 p.m. with the Rev. John McGarvey, pastor of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Cochranton officiating.

Interment will be made in the Franklin Cemetery.
