Rodger Lavern Chase

October 4, 1930 — April 27, 2016

Rodger Lavern Chase, 85 of Harrisville, passed away at 4:25 P.M. on Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Sugar Creek Station after an extended illness.

Born October 4, 1930 in Pleasantville, he was a son of the late Newell and Mary College Chase.
He was a graduate of Grove City High School and attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.

Over the years, Rodger worked for Cooper Bessemer and the former CPT in Franklin, but mainly he was self-employed as a Water Well Driller.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Rodger loved aviation and formerly has his Pilot's license. He was an airplane mechanic who rebuilt three Piper J-3 Cubs in his father's garage with the help of his friends.

He was a member of the Parker City - Allegheny Valley Lodge No. 521 F&AM, the Oil City Consistory and the New Castle Consistory.

Rodger enjoyed woodworking, gardening and was an avid bird watcher.

On November 9, 1985 he married the former Nola Whitehill and she survives.

Also surviving are three children; Linda Kvietkus and her husband Vince, Carol Dunkerly, and Greg Chase and his wife Beth; a daughter in law, Michelle Chase; five grandchildren, Nikki Kvietkus, and Jude Kvietkus, Rachel Chase, Korbin Chase, and Nicole Dunkerly; a brother, Herb Chase and his wife Louise and a sister in law, Ruth Chase.

Additionally surviving are four step children; Margie Minnichs and her husband Charlie, Andrew Whitling, Jim McFadden and Gary McFadden; and three step grandchildren, Rachel, Garrett and Gene.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter; Pam Kutcsh; a son, Richard Chase; a grandson, Jared Chase; and a brother Fred Chase.

A private family viewing was held Thursday morning at the funeral home.

A private committal service will be held at a later date.
