Rosemary Bowie Sloan, 93, of Emlenton died Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at The Caring Place in Franklin.

She was born March 22, 1926 in Gove City. She was the eldest daughter of the late James LaMont and Lucille McCoy Bowie.

At age 12 she moved to Emlenton and met her husband-to-be Dan G. Sloan late of Emlenton.

She graduated from Emlenton High School in 1944. Following graduation from high school Rosemary attended Grove City College and then Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University), but left shortly before graduation to marry Dan on August 28, 1948.

In her younger days she was a keen horsewomen both for pleasure and in competition. She also studied the piano with Lois Barnard of Emlenton. Later in life she enjoyed golf, bridge, and socializing with friends in Emlenton and Gibsonia where her husband worked and they raised their three children.

In earlier years she worked at her family's coal business, her father's bakery, Emil Long Furniture and West & Lorch Real Estate in Pittsburgh area, and she did volunteer work.

She was a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three children: Barbara McCormick, (Brendan) Naperville, IL, Dan G. Sloan of Emlenton, and Nancy of Longmont, CO, She was the grandmother of Meghan McCormick Hermanson (Joseph) of Naperville, IL, Brendan M. McCormick Jr of Denver, Co, and Austin D. McCormick of Audobon, NJ. Two Sisters, Barbara A. Holleran of Tucson, AZ, and Jane McGourty of North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 312 W. Park Street, Franklin.

A graveside service will be held at the Emlenton Cemetery on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM.
