Sara Margaret (Wolfe) Barr, lifelong resident of Franklin, died March 25, 2009, at the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, Illinois, following medical complications resulting from a broken hip. She was 93.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Daisy Wolfe and William Oscar Wolfe; her husband, Evans Robinson Barr; and five brothers: William Roy, Sidney Paul, Harry and Harold (twins) and Robert Oscar Wolfe.
She is survived by a sister, Shirley W. Grandelis of Franklin; a daughter, Susan B. Olchak and her husband Richard of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; a son, James R. Barr and his wife Ardath of LaGrange Park, Illinois; three grandchildren, John R. Olchak of Los Angeles, California, James A. Olchak of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Laura K. Gibbons of Brookfield, Illinois; two great grandchildren: Katelyn and Jimmy Gibbons; five nieces, six nephews and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Sara was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin and a choir member there for many years, as well as participating in St. Monica's and St. Anne's Guilds. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was active in music in the community. She sang alto in the Choraliers and participated in several shows and community performances with that group as well as with a barbershop music group. Sara was a founding member of the Civic Operetta Assn., along with her brother, Roy, and served on the board as well. She was considered a Director Emeritus of the Civic Operetta Assn.
Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Barr worked in the Records Room at the Franklin Hospital and eventually became Supervisor prior to her retirement. In recent years, she has been active in several ladies Bridge groups in the Franklin area. Sara will always be remembered for her sunny disposition and ever-present smile.
Funeral services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin on Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Holly A. Davis will officiate.
Interment will be made in the Franklin Cemetery.
A reception to greet the family will be held in the Parish Hall of St. John?s following the Committal.
The Huff Chapel 312 W. Park St., Franklin in charge of the arrangements.
The family suggests that donations be made to St. John?s Episcopal Churdh, 1145 Buffalo St., Franklin, PA 16323 or a charily of your choice.
