Violet I. Kern, 77, of Grove City, formerly of Harrisville passed away at 11:23 A.M. on Tuesday December 31, 2013 at the Grove City Medical Center. Born at home in Jackson Center on October 6, 1936 she was a daughter of the late Norman and Mary Johns Bestwick. Mrs. Kern worked many years as a rest area attendant of interstate 80 for the blind association retiring in 1994. On May 22, 1954 she married Arthur F. Kern Jr. in Harrisville and he preceded her in death on September 25, 2004. Surviving is a daughter; Diane L. Scott and her husband James of Butler; two sisters, Nellie Forrester of Jackson Center and Florence Beres of Greenville; and two brothers, Laken Guthrie of Jamestown and Norman Bestwick Jr. of Jackson Center; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne C. Kern; a sister, Margaret Bartolone; five brothers, Harry Guthrie, Daniel Guthrie, Warren Guthrie, Robert Guthrie and Clinton Guthrie; and a grandson Shawn Scott. Family and friends welcome Friday from 9:30 A.M. " 11:00 A.M. at the Jamison Funeral Home Inc. 117 N. Main St. Harrisville. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with the Rev. Peter J. Puliatti, Pastor of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, Officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 54 Harrisville, PA 16038.
