William Francis "Larky" Chalot

William Francis "Larky" Chalot, 90 of Franklin died peacefully at 6:32 P.M. on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at The Caring Place after a brief illness.

Born August 3, 1925 in Oil City he was a son of the late Albert L. and Helen P. Huber Chalot.

He was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph High in Oil City and attended Indiana University of PA.

A Veteran of WWII, Bill honorably served with the U.S. Air Force.

Over his career, Bill worked a number of jobs throughout the area. He worked over 20 years at the former James Lumber Co., Witherup Erection, Conair, V.C.I.D.C. and Nova Enterprises of Ashville, N.C.

He was an active and faithful member of St. Patrick Church and served as a charter member of Parish Council, member of Knights of Columbus, Franklin Council # 1040, was a past commander of the Catholic War Veterans Post #1471.

Bill was also active in the former Franklin Club, Franklin Elks Lodge #110 B.P.O. Civically, he was active in the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce, Franklin YMCA, serving on the board of directors for many years, was a past President of the board and was instrumental in the success of various fund raising projects of the YMCA, particularly in the building of the new building.

He served with the United Way of Venango County in many different capacities, served as a board member of the Franklin Public Library, was member and treasurer of the Franklin Parking Authority. He was also a member of the Franklin Hospital Association and on the board of directors for the Visiting Nurses Association.

He served as a Minister of the Eucharist at Polk Center, under Father John Kirk. He took an active part in Marriage Encounter, and he and his wife, served as financial couple for many years. He retired to Anderson S.C. in 1988 where he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

On February 17, 1946 he married the former, Rose Jean McPherson in Jamestown, N.Y., and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons; Andrew M. Chalot and his wife Reni of Cranberry, and Jeff Chalot and his wife Galena of Franklin; three grandsons, Benjamin J. Chalot and his wife Talley Clyde, Andrew J. Chalot and his wife Amy and Levi W. Chalot; one granddaughter, Rachel W. Chalot; one great granddaughter, Peyton Marie Chalot; one great-grandson, Wyatt William Burke Chalot; one step granddaughter, Melissa Searles and her husband Jeffrey; one step grandson, Christopher Stanonis; one step great-grandson, Nathan J. Hackett and his wife Alexa and one step great-great grandson, Spencer Gilhousen.

Also surviving is a brother Edward J. Chalot of Cranberry, numerous nieces and nephews and close family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Daley, a brother, Richard A. Chalot and his step mother, Mabel Chalot.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin.

To honor Bill's wishes, there will be no public visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty St. Franklin with Monsignor John J. Herbein, officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the Franklin Public Library 421 Twelfth Street Franklin, PA 16323.
